Can you drive with a jump starter/booster attached to your battery for a short distance?

My alternator is shot. I own a 300 amp Vector START-IT jump starter and am able to start my car (1989 Saab 900) with it attached, but as soon as I remove it the car shuts off.

Would I be able to drive about 3 miles with the jump starter attached to my battery? I want to avoid paying for a tow to my mechanic if possible.

Yes you can! Also,charge the battery up and run on the reserve it stores (no lites,radio,htr,or any other accesaries) as that is what reserve is for in a battery. When the battery runs dry,plug in your jump starter to go a little farther on it stored reserve.

How do I jump start my ML320 w/a jump starter??

I have a 99 Mercedes ML320 v6 3.2 litre. It's been sitting for 2 weeks w/the key turned on (doh!I t is now completely dead. I just bought a Husky 12 V 400 starting amps jump starter. I charged til the light was green, connected it to my battery and NOTHING. No electrical, nothing. What's going on?

Hook the red clamp from the Husky to the red post on the battery. Hook the black clamp onto something metal on the engine. Make sure its metal and then turn the Husky on for a minute. Then try starting it. If that doesnt work you will need to take the battery to autozone or advanced auto. they charge batteries for free. then try starting it. you may need a new battery running it so dead.

Why can't I jump start my car with my rechargeable jump starter/booster?

I have a 2003 Range Rover 4.4 V8 that I haven't driven for 6-7 weeks. The battery is almost drained from the alarm and I can't start the car.

I bought a new rechargeable jump starter to jump start the car but it didn't work. All the electrics goes on when I've connected the rechargeable thingy but the starter engine just goes "click".

It's a Blackspur Engine Starter, but it doesn't say how many amps it is.

Is it because the jump starter is not strong enough? What determines the strength of a jump starter? Should I do something completely different to start the car?

Your 4.4 litre V8 will need a starting current of around 800Amps. Most jump starters don't come near this rating, even when fully charged. Their starting current is determined by the size of their battery and their state of charge; you can try completely charging it and trying again but unless it will deliver over 800 Amps, it's the wrong starter.

Incidentally, the starter going "click" is perfectly normal if there isn't enough current to start the engine. This is the usual symptom and doesn't suggest a faulty starter.

In order to start the car, take the Range Rover battery out and charge it using a battery charger, or get a jump start (using heavy duty jump leads) from the biggest engined vehicle you can find.

my car battery is a bit down.i`ve lost the jump starter manual .

even without a manual you can jump start a car, just connect the posivite pole with the positive pole of the other battery and same with the negative pole.

Input of 220vac step down to 12vac using triacs and diacs and no transformer then rectified to 12vdc

Out of curiosity... why would you want to? Sounds like an awful lot of work for a battery charger... I mean you can buy one pretty cheap.
