Extrusion processors' problems meet their match Plastics Today

The embark upon of our Extrusion Expert series of webinars in January generated pronounced feedback and a long list of questions. Here we share with you not only the questions your competitors and peers asked, but also the answers to those. It’s an extrusion facts overload.

If we’d held it in a lecture hall, it would have been bursting to the rafters. Almost 300 processors attended the first webinar in our Extrusion Skilful series to learn from our host, Allan Griff, consulting connive and extrusion expert with more than 40 years of experience in the airfield. In that webinar, the first of a series of six planned this year, Allan presented on “Statistics acquisition: Get the numbers.”

The questions poured in, and Allan answered them during the occasion or in e-mails sent after the event. We looked at the questions, considered how many processors may have the same or equivalent issues, and knew it made perfect sense to share some of this Q&A with our inviolate readership.

How do you use a DID Chain Breaker/Rivetter?

I have a DID KM500 chain breaker/rivetter, which thanks to the muppets at M&P, came with no instructions. Has anyone used one of these, or better still, does anyone have a scanned copy of the instructions that they could send me? M&P say it will be at least a week before they can send instructions, and I wanted to get the chain sorted tonight.
You can see a pic of the tool here >>> http://www.demon-tweeks.net/products/ProductDetail.asp?cls=MCYCLE&pcode=BIC5914603

Don't know about this one - if it is similar to mine it is a clamp over type with a screw adjuster - add a comment if it sounds similar - they are quite easy to use

Right - it's slighly different to mine - undo the nut on the top and seperate the unit - slide it over the chain and locate the unit back together - tighten the top nut - when done locate a chain rivet and hand tighten until the push pin hits the rivet - the tighten with a spanner or socket until the rivet is pushed out on the far side - you may need some pliers to help just break the chain link away - that should be it -

SORRY Should read - remove the link from the chain and fit over the chain - NOT UNDO NUT ON TOP - was typing to quick - brain didn't catch up

Does anyone know of a better quality chain riveting tool kit?

I have the motion pro chain kit 08-0058 ( http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/tools/chain_breaker_and_riveting_tool/ )and basically, it's cheap quality. Is this kit any better http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/tools/jumbo_chain_tool/ or do you know of another kit that is better quality for riveting chains?
I've had the 3.8mm tip break on me when used properly, and just last night my large anvil busted when i was riveting my 530 chain.
motion pro 08-0058 $95.00 is cheap quality. The anvils are not a solid one piece. It's 2 pieces machined to fit precisely and painted over to hide such fact. I barely even started flairing out the rivet pin when the anvil gave way and broke. It's a miracle I figured out a way to get the pin to flush up against the side plate. I've already notified Motionpro and the vendor I purchased the kit from. All blame on Motionpro.

I also have the motion pro chain kit 08-0058, I also broke mine. Can't help you yet but thanks for the link to their site for I will order my replacement parts.

Where do i rent a chain wrench?

I too am in the middle of a timing belt job. In my old Nissan I just put a breaker bar on the crankshapt pulley bolt and use the starter moter to spin the engine. I don't think that works in my civic.

Most rental places will rent them, Rental Land ect., but the cheaper way is Autozone. They have a "Loan a Tool" where you pay a deposit to use the tool then get your money back when you return it. Free, what price could be better!

Chainbreaker

Hey buddiez,

While doing some experiment with into something else, I remembered this handy scarcely DIY guide to bike adjust from New Orleans that is super extensive, easy to read/use, and is co-authored by a daily. It’s $12 through Microcosm but I recognize of a few copies that usually get shared between collective houses and DIY communities if you don’t have the bells (or if you do and only just don’t want to shell out em). This book is also unruffled because it includes a reprinting of all four imaginative Chainbreaker zines, the boss copies of which were lost forever during a traditional hurricane that happened a few years back.

Anyway, consciousness is power, so get it while the gettin’s eulogistic.

xoxo
